about

[this is not jazz :)]

The first draft of this fugue was completed on the beach in Rio de Janeiro in March 2020. At one point a wave swept away my papers and sandals. Undignified scurrying ensued...

The current score has been edited for inclusion in a forthcoming collection. This recording is a midi performance through one of my favorite synths, the early 80s Roland Jupiter 6. Only reverb has been added.

This is a triplex fugue, meaning that there are two countersubjects that appear alongside the principal subject. Except for a couple of times :)

about

Paul Sikivie New York, New York

I play double bass and write music, and it mostly would be called jazz or BAM (Black American Music). I was based in Brooklyn until this pandemic (2020), but now I’m a bit harder to pin down. Some of the musicians I’ve been involved with include Cecile McLorin Salvant, Aaron Diehl, Matt Wilson, Grant Stewart, and Johnny O’Neal. ... more
